I didn't understand anything past your first sentence, something about being a son of a bitch. I'm assuming you did restart your iPod when it froze?

Try holding Menu and the center button, and wait about 7-10 seconds,it will fully restart that Ipod but won't delete anything on it.

You could try doing a full system restore. A diagnostics run just shows if something is wrong. Obviously something is. So skip it. Restore the iPod completely. This will reinstall the firmware (fw) and delete EVERYTHING including music. This returns it to factory settings like it was when it came outta the box. Let me know if that works.

im sure there are ways to fix it other than reset it to factory standards because ive spent days worth (not at) putting stuff on there like i have 3 thousand some odd songs and 70 videos and i had to do each thing individually
