Simple question, big debate, what makes something edible?
I'm saving my views (As always) till the first few replies, so what do people think?

Taste is an obvious reason. Also morality/perception.
For example... the thing I eat most is chicken. But I fuckin hate any type of beef/pork (except as an occasional pizza topping) b/c the thought of eating something that rolls around in its own shit (a pig) disgusts me.
I think it also comes down to necessity and ancestry. You hear about people in Africa who hunt/eat things that disgust us north Americans (although I think it's HOW they hunt and eat them). But in the middle of forest or desert, you don't really have a wide variety of choices.
We on the other hand have basically anything available to us.

Because cats and dogs here are seen as household pets.. Some dogs are seen as household pets in Asia.. The others arent. So they are eaten.
We don't eat goldfish cuz they are small and their pets.. We eat salmon cuz thye're bigger and we don't usually hold em in fish tanks..
Its all based on taste and quality of the "meat"..

Horse meat is really good for you etc. Why not eat it?

Because U ride horses. U race horses. They are on carraiges.
If U have contact wit em in a way U wouldn't eat em.
Just like.. If a cow were to talk to U.. Tell U that U could eat it. And reccomend what part to eat. Would U eat the cow? If it talks like a human, thinks etc.. But it's in the body of a cow.. Does it make it morally right to eat it now that U've had contact with it? What's the difference. It's a cow right? Smh.

LOL it's something we've been studying on one of my courses, yeah, but i was just wondering what people think really.
Rabbit's been normal food in UK/America/Europe for a long time. More recently they became pets. Asia/Africa some people eat monkey. Horses again are like rabbits.
And also, horse meat is incredibly good quality. Also, logically if monkeys are closer to us, their meat would be better for us surely as they're gonna have a closer body composition, and thus what we're eating will be made up from similar stuff to us, so we'll be getting the proteins etc we need, no?

I think this is one of those stupid questions with broad space and immense amount of answers where people will have a general opinion and stick to it.
It all depends where U live. And the animals change.

If a cow talked to me their would be 2 solutions..... #1 - The cow is interesting and cool, becomes friendish.... #2 - The cow is boring and anoying so i chop it up and eat it.... Probably number 2 cause their fat things on all 4s and just eat grass all day..... Now their are farmer kids whos first sexual experience is with animals.... theirs a fact like 40% or more kids in the world (i think its more)have their first sexual experience with animals..... so im guessing they would keep it...... now if it was something like a monkey that might be better..... monkeys are cool.... but monkeys are also partly retarted and hyper.... so they might get anoying as hell to some people cause they'd prob always be running around talking million miles an hour 24/7...... Now dogs are mans best friend for a reason..... dogs would probably be pretty cool if they could talk lol..... but then again when animals start talkin, they can start talkin back..... they would be like a teenager and talk back and not listen to their parents(you) wow.... im baked.... i could keep goin but ima stop its all sp's fault for gettin me brainstorming for my battle!!!! anyways.... personally i dont get attached to animals...... and iv never really came across food i dont like (cept candy and sweets like that, it doesnt taste bad, it makes my tummy hurt so i dont eat it) so id probably try any kind of animal almost.... somethin that rolls in its own shit is on the skin.... not in the meat..... now if you asked me to eat pigs skin, id rather not.... but who would do that anyways?
