Overview
The first album from the genius that is known as MC Abdominal. After first hearing him on DJ Format's "Ill culinary behavior" i've been hooked on this dude, there quite frankly isn't another lyricist like him. Linking a unique delivery, solid flow, witty and intellectual penmanship with his signature insane breath control (*check the track "Breathe Later"), Abs brings to us his first solo album. (I'm not countin "Flowtation Device", his album with DJ Fase)
As always, the cuts are about shit in his life, and his crazy sense of egotism and love of the mic.. so let's get into it.

The Escape
THe intro track, and effectively, the title track. Abs give his account of his "Escape from the pigeon hole". The choice of beat is nice, the percussion give the effect of the pigeon's beating wings, while the trumpets (i think) and other random sound effects just compliment the whole thing. A very old school jazzy track.
Lyrically? Abs delivers this account as articulate as always with the kinda most emcees wish they could pull off
Pretty tough for just an intro eh?

Breathe Later
This is that "OMD DID HE JUST DO THAT!!!" track... and yes... yes he did just spit 16 bars without breathing... Now you get what i meant about that breath control eh?
Kicking off with a very DJ Format style sample, and beat.. and more appropriately placed and sometimes amusing samples, the beat is def on point.. gotta love them drums.
Lyrically? well... in terms of rhymes and flow.. Abs has substituted those for the ability to rap each verse off one breath (maybe two for the first two verses actually). Another display of his showmanship, he simply spits about his ability to "come packed with more lung power than a bellowing elephant". Though a little rocky on flow in places, and his voice sounds a lil' weird as he attempts to hold his breath, it's still mostly solid. The punchlines are his usual creative and original shit, though maybe not as hard as usual (peep the breathaliser line.. coulda been hotter eh?).
Overall though, definately a solid effort. I feel ready to forgive the shortcomings in flow for the sheer display of breath control.

T.Ode [Feat. Notes To Self]
Got that (what i call) "nostalgic" kinda beat on this track, Abs ode to his hometown of Toronto, giving a shoutout to a number of the major places in the "Screwface Capital". The beat itself, though nothing special, but isnt bad. Personally not my favourite.
Lyrically, dudes do what they set out to do, but i felt it seemed a lil amateur and rocky in places. def not my favourite cut on the album. It's solid, but nothing to write home about for Abs.

Radio Friendly
A lot of things that had to be said.. but a lil' too much "Don't give a fuck". Dude coulda' done with a few multies too, cas' the flow is a lil' rocky in places. I think as a concept track it probably seemed like a great idea, but it only serves to be a mildly amusing break in the tracks. Too simple for my liking.
The beat.. meh.. nothing special again, i genuinely found this to be a big downer to the album.

Pedal Pusher
The first single i believe, and one of my personal favourites. The beat is on some mad cheery shit, with a few samples interjecting every now and again. A solid beat that fits the track well.
Abs is back on form on this track, it flows fluently, delivery is solid, and the lyricism is on point. Some funny punches here and there, and dude just does exactly what he set out to do. The imagery is all on point, and the story he tells is done vividly.. seriously, we need more tracks like this these days.

Big Track
Lol... another of those funny lil' humour tracks, the beat is very simple, and misleading.. it almost sounds like a really stripped down snap beat or somethin, the way it's kinda bumpy.
Flow is, well, as on point as it can be on a beat like this, and the deliver is good, the way Abs voice adjusts to the spoken words is nice. Lyrically, not as crazy with the multies and shit, but it still is delivering what it aims to do. So although not exactly the kinda track you wanna bump 24/7, this one is still a solid addition to the album.

I will finish this later.. so enjoy the taster... more to come
